John Carter: three new banners

They’re big, narrow, and full of exotic creatures. Check out the three fabulous banners from Disney’s John Carter here…

Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Barsoom novels introduced a huge bestiary of imaginative monsters, and some of these have been brought spectacularly to life by director Andrew Stanton in his forthcoming John Carter adaptation. And as the marketing machine for next year’s big live-action Disney movie clicks into gear, it’s the creatures that are brought to the fore in these latest banners.

It’s notable just how tiny Taylor Kitsch and leading lady Lynn Collins are here, even though the name of Carter himself is writ large. No, the point these banners wish to make is that John Carter will contain big creatures – and lots of them.

One banner showcases the betusked White Apes, which are attempting to smush Carter with a hairy paw. Another sees green Martian Tars Tarkas (an unrecognisable Willem Dafoe) sitting proudly atop his steed. The third sees John Carter riding about on a rhino-like creature of his own, but the real star of the piece is the adorable Woola, who’s the Scooby Doo to the hero’s Shaggy.

John Carter’s out next March, and we’re rather looking forward to it. In the meantime, why not read our thoughts on the twenty minutes of footage that we’ve seen, and also our Q&A with director Andrew Stanton.
