With Christian Bale dropping out, Michael Fassbender might just be about to join Darren Aronofsky's Noah...
It has long been known that Darren Aronofsky’s follow up to Black Swan would be Noah, and that he wanted Christian Bale as his leading man. However, with the actor committing himself to two Terrence Malick movies in 2012, his schedule won’t allow him to take the role.
According to rumours, Aronofsky has found a more than capable replacement in the form of Michael Fassbender, who despite being a hot property at the moment, has a relatively free schedule next year. It only includes Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years as a Slave at this point, which would allow him to take the role.
It should be noted that no formal offer has been made to the actor at this stage but talks have been held between Fassbender and Aronofsky regarding the project.
Given the amount of good will directed at both of them currently I’d say that this looks like a great fit, as both are no strangers to challenging material. So them being involved in this classic story could produce very interesting results.
Aronofsky says of the project:
“I don’t think it’s a very religious story… I think it’s a great fable that’s part of so many different religions and spiritual practices. I just think it’s a great story that’s never been on film ... He’s a dark, complicated character. The tragedies we perform on each other are so well reported. Quite clearly, the planet is dying, and we are dying on it.”
