David Yates has been fielding a question or two about the planned Doctor Who movie. And here's what he had to say...
Last month, the Internet temporarily melted when Harry Potter helmer David Yates was revealed to be working on a big screen take on Doctor Who.
The news was a bit of a bolt out of the blue, not least because there still appears to be no crossover either with the current run of the television series, or the people behind it. Still, given that it’s going to be a few years until we see a finished movie, there’s still lots of time for the Internet to break altogether.
MTV, however, caught up with David Yates on the red carpet at the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards, and chatted to him some more about the project.
Yates said that he couldn’t really talk about the film, given how far away it was. But he did confirm that “We’re principally looking for a writer, and we’ll start with that. Everything has to start with a great script, so that’s more important than [casting]”. He wasn't dropping any names, though.
While he wouldn’t be pressed into revealing any more details about the film, MTV did quiz him on the pressure from Doctor Who fans.
"I've lived with pressure for so long. What's pressure? I don't know anymore! It's fine, it's good," he said. "It's such a wonderful character and such a wonderful world. It's exciting."
There’s clearly no rush on Yates’ part with the film, which he reinforced by saying, “It’s a long journey and we’re going to take our time with it”.
