An official statement has been released about the accident that left one stuntman dead and another seriously injured on The Expendables 2 set.
To say that things haven’t been going particularly to plan on the set of the now-shooting The Expendables 2 would be no understatement at all. Late last week, it was revealed that one stuntman, Kun Lieu, had been killed on the set of the film, and another, Nuo Sun, was seriously injured.
Now, Nu Image/Millennium Films, the company putting the film together, has issued a statement about the tragedy.
“Our deepest condolences go to the family of Kun Lieu. His passing is tragic,” it said. “Our sympathies also go to Nuo Sun who was seriously injured as a result of the same explosion. We have been informed his condiditon has stabilized. He has been transported to Munich, Germany, where he is receiving top medical care from the best specialists.”
It also clarified rumours that the stunt doubles for Jet Li and Sylvester Stallone were involved, by denying that this was the case. It was a second unit stunt that was being worked on, with the main cast and crew – including Simon West – not on set at the time.
While confirming that second unit filming has been suspended for the time being, the statement confirmed that “Main unit production has not been interrupted and continues as scheduled”.
Er, so that’s alright then.
It all feels a bit cold, this, or is it us? Appreciating that the statement is responding in part to one or two press allegations, and appreciating too that the film still needs to be made, perhaps the statement should have just stuck to talking about the stuntmen involved and the production should have quietly gone about its business? Feel free to disagree…
The Expendables 2 is out next August.
