Is Eddie Murphy likely to bring Axel Foley back to the big screen any time soon, in Beverly Hills Cop 4? Here’s the latest on the project…
Right then, where were we up to on Beverly Hills Cop 4? You might recall that this was a film that Eddie Murphy seemed up for making, and that director Brett Ratner was interested in, too. Thus, a script was commissioned from Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, and eventually, Ratner and Murphy came together on a seperate project, too, Tower Heist, which arrives in cinemas next week.
And, given that Ratner is doing promotional work for the film, it seemed an opportune moment to gauge the current state of Beverly Hills Cop 4. Which is just what the folks at Collider managed to do.
In the interview, Ratner ruled out a fourth Rush Hour movie, but admitted that Beverly Hills Cop 4 is still likely. “I think more so now than before because Eddie and I now have a rapport”, he said.
However, he also conceded that a working screenplay was still a way away. “We’re not close”, he said, “but I’m hoping in the next few years there will be one. Eddie and I are even setting up some more of his ideas. I’m hoping that we have a long, fruitful relationship. We’re both still very young, believe it or not. Eddie’s only 50 years old, so I think we have a little bit of time to come up with a great Beverly Hills Cop.”
That sounds to us like the script from Brandt and Haas didn’t hit the mark, and that Axel Foley’s return isn’t likely to happen anytime soon. But we’ll keep you posed of any changes.
