The big screen take on Battlestar Galactica takes another jump forward, as a screenwriter is hired for the job...
It looks like it’s full steam ahead now on the planned big screen outing for Battlestar Galactica. Earlier in the week, we learned that the project appeared to have moved up director Bryan Singer’s priority list. And now, Universal is looking to kick it further into life with the appointment of a writer.
The job has gone to John Orloff, whose challenge is to come up with a script, presumably based more on the original TV series, as opposed to Ronald D Moore’s reboot. After all, Moore’s version didn’t leave much room for further story to be told.
Orloff has previously written Roland Emmerich’s movie Anonymous, as well as A Mighty Heart, and Zack Snyder’s Legend Of The Guardians. And he’s clearly a Battlestar fan.
Talking to Deadline, he said that ““I have wanted to write this movie since I was twelve years old, and built a Galactica model from scratch out of balsa wood, cardboard, old model parts and LEDs. I love BSG, and I would pass on the job rather than frak it up.”
There’s still a long way to go here, and Bryan Singer may yet elect to press ahead with another X-Men movie over Battlestar Galactica. Plus, he’s got Jack The Giant Killer to finish yet. But there does seem to be progress on a project that, in all honesty, we suspected would linger on the shelves for a while, before quietly being filed away.
Here’s the story at Deadline.
