It looks like we're getting a six minute taster of The Dark Knight Rises before screenings of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol...
If you cast your minds back to 2007, you might recall that, seven or eight months ahead of the release of The Dark Knight, Warner Bros attached the opening sequence, in certain territories at least, to the front of I Am Legend. It worked as a taster for the movie, and we suspect it did I Am Legend no harm, either (although it didn't reap the benefits that the film The Siege did, when the first trailer for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was shown before it. Remember that?).
According to the fine folks over at Slashfilm, the studio may be planning a similar approach for The Dark Knight Rises. The site cites a source has suggested that a six-minute sequence from The Dark Knight Rises will be shown before IMAX screenings of Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
The reason, presumably, that Mission: Impossible 4 would be chosen for this is that it too was partially filmed with IMAX cameras. Paramount is also releasing the film in IMAX screens five days ahead of the wider release, incidentally.
None of this has been confirmed by Warner Bros, but it sounds really quite plausible to us.
Don’t be surprised, too, to see a new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises this side of Christmas. Warner Bros may choose to attach that to its own winter blockbuster, Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. That's not been confirmed at all, though.
