Battlestar Galactica

The planned movie reboot of Excalibur is dead. But that might mean that Bryan Singer's Battlestar Galactica film is very much alive...

As he continues to work on his movie for next summer, Jack The Giant Killer, director Bryan Singer has been rearranging what’s likely to come after that. He had been linked with a reboot of Excalibur, but he’s now revealed that project is dead in the water.

Warner Bros had been developing the new Excalibur, but the studio has now reportedly shut down the project. We’re guessing that the recent cancellation of the TV series Camelot did it no favours, but Singer has explained the reason the new Excalibur died.

Talking to SFX, he said that “The project was with Warner Bros and what happened is that another King Arthur project was brought to them during that time. Basically, it was just more ready to go into production than ours was.”.

And that, friends, was that.

The silver lining to this is that Singer can press ahead with another of his projects instead, the big screen version of Battlestar Galactica. We’d love to see this, although our feeling is that we’ll be surprised if it comes to fruition. Singer, though, has said that when Excalibur was canned, “it allowed me to go straight into developing Battlestar Galactica – which I think will be really exciting”.

There’s no time scale on Singer’s Battlestar Galactica, though. Is it too much to hope that it’ll be his next project after Jack The Giant Killer, or will he be lured back to helm another X-Men movie? We’ll find out in due course…
