Die Hard 5: release date and 'interesting' title confirmed

Die Hard 5 gets a Valentine's Day release. And, er, you're going to love the title of Bruce Willis' next outing as John McClane...

Die Hard 5 would, clearly, be too simple a name for the further adventures of Mr John McClane. And, clearly fuelled by the need to uncomfortably wrap the words Die and Hard into as clunky a title as possible, Fox has announced the name of the fifth instalment in  the Die Hard franchise.

It’s going to be called A Good Day To Die Hard.

We’re going to let you take that in for a minute.

Adding to the fun, Fox has also confirmed a release date for the film. A Good Day To Die Hard is set for release on February 14th, 2013. Yep, Die Hard 5 is now going to be pitched as a Valentine’s Day movie (not that we disapprove of that).

Clearly, given the release date, there may have been other variants on bits of the title that Fox may have been toying with. We can’t work out if the name could have been worse, or is pretty much the crappiest one that came out of the executive brainstorm session.

There’s also a synopsis that’s been released, which reads thus:

”Since the first Die Hard in 1988, John McClane has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the skills and attitude to always be the last man standing, making him enemy #1 for terrorists the world over. Now, McClane faces his greatest challenge ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.”

He’s come a long way since he was running around a tower block in bare feet and a dirty vest. Once, we was just interested in saving his wife, and now he’s saving world democracy. Hmmm. Personally, I’ve enjoyed every Die Hard movie, but isn’t John McClane doing Jack Bauer’s work these days?

Meanwhile, Tom Rothman, the co-chairman and CEO of 20th Century Fox Filmed Entertainment, was interviewed yesterday. And he confirmed that a decision hadn’t been made as to whether the film would go for an R rating, or PG-13. So it’ll be PG-13 then, we’d wager.

John Moore is directing A Good Day To Die Hard. And, lest you forget, there’s one more movie in the franchise planned after this. Do leave your title suggestions for John McClane’s swansong in the comments, below.
