Over the past months, the production of World War Z, the big screen adaptation of Max Brooks’ post-apocalyptic zombie horror novel, has been shooting in the UK, taking in locations in Cornwall and Scotland. And it all seemed to be ticking along quite nicely, with the film then heading over to Budapest for the next part of the shoot.
But could the film now have some problems?
It depends how much you read into the report that’s popped up at U.S. Weekly, which is carrying the story that a SWAT team has raided a warehouse in Budapest that’s being used to hold the weapons being deployed on camera in the movie.
The story carries a quote from both the director and deputy director of Hungary’s anti-terrorism unit, where they say “we can confirm that weapons were confiscated at an airport”. 85 of them in all, it seems.
And the problem is this: the guns were supposed to be “non-functional”. It turns out that’s apparently not the case. Which might have been something of a problem had they been used on set, you’d imagine.
Brad Pitt, the star and producer of the film, is reported to be “furious”. Which we could understand. The story also cites that the film is running over budget, and is behind schedule. It’s unclear how much truth there is to that, though. Still, the original piece has subsequent links to ‘Brad Pitt’s sexy movie looks’ and ‘Brad and Maddox’s cutest moments’.
There’s little doubting, however, that the SWAT team moved in. And that’s got to be something of an inconvenience, you’d imagine.
World War Z is due to be released on December 21st 2012. Assuming they keep everyone out of prison.
