A couple of small snippets about the sequel to the Star Trek reboot have popped up. And we've got them right here...

It’s been a couple of weeks now since JJ Abrams was finally confirmed as the director of the sequel to his Star Trek reboot. And, coupled with that news was the suggestion that the film might just be heading into production this side of Christmas.

We've still go no official dates for the film, though. So we couldn't tell you when filming actually begins, or what the current release date is likely to be (it's looking like summer 2013, though).

Still, according to a new interview with co-writer Roberto Orci, over at the official Star Trek website, things are ticking along. Orci is also the creative director of some new Star Trek comic books, too, which have some relevance to what we can expect to see on the big screen,

Firstly, Orci reveals the current status of the film: “The cast is excited. We have a director. We’ve started scouting locations. The second time around the crew is already together from the start, so we can jump right into the adventure.”

Location scouting is still some way away from rolling cameras, of course, but it’s another step in the right direction.

The comic books certainly sound interesting. As Mike Johnson, one of the writers of the comics, teases, “As we get closer to the next movie, the stories will begin to foreshadow the events of the movie, such as possibly introducing new characters we will see onscreen… pun very much intended.”

If you're scouring for Star Trek clues, then, then those comic books might be a decent place to start.

You can find more on what Orci and Johnson had to say, right here.
