Planet Pandora beckons, as James Cameron officially signs on to direct two more Avatar movies…
It’s now official: James Cameron is locked and loaded for two more sequels to Avatar.
In the words of Fox: “Moving forward with the most anticipated films of the next decade, Fox Filmed Entertainment Chairmen Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman announced today that Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Cameron has agreed to make Avatar 2 and 3 as his next films.”
The press release later says that Avatar 2 will commence production next year, with a projected release date of December 2014, and the second sequel following in December 2015.
“We had no higher priority, and can feel no greater joy, than enabling Jim to continue and expand his vision of the world of Avatar,” Gianopulos and Rothman reportedly said (in unison, we like to think). “This is a great day in the history of our company.”
You can almost hear those cash registers ringing. More news on the Avatar sequels as we get it. In the meantime, why not think of your own names for these as-yet untitled movies?
So far, we’ve come up with Avatar: Maximum Unobtanium, Avatar: Explorer On Pandora, Avatar 2: Electric Bluegaloo, and Avatar 2: Mo’ Better Blues…
