Telltale announces a five-part Back To The Future adventure game, and you can watch three making-of videos right here…
With Back To The Future now available in glorious high definition on Blu-ray, Telltale has confirmed that its tie-in videogame adaptation will be available for PC and Mac in December.
Telltale has already applied its talent for episodic adventure games to such properties as Sam & Max and Wallace & Grommit, and Back To The Future will be little different, consisting of five installments whose stories will be set in locations made famous by the original films.
The narrative will catch up with Marty McFly six months after the events of Back To The Future III, with voice actor AJ LoCascio standing in for Michael J Fox in the hero’s role, and Christopher Lloyd returning to provide the voice of Doc Brown.
It’s not the first time Back To The Future has been turned into a videogame – some decidedly iffy adaptations appeared alongside the film’s initial release back in 1985. The ZX Spectrum version was particularly awful, and looked like this:
A Japan-only adaptation of Back To The Future II appeared for the SNES in 1993 (called Super Back To The Future II, in an era when all Nintendo games had to have ‘super’ in the title), which featured a super-deformed Marty McFly leaping around on his hoverboard.
Telltale’s adaptation is available to pre-order for $24.95 (around £15.74 in old money), with $1.00 from every purchase donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
Versions of the game will soon be available for PS3 and iPad, while ports for Xbox 360 and Wii have yet to be announced.
Telltale’s Back To The Future goes for stylised caricatures rather than life-like approximations of Doc and Marty, and it looks rather good, as you can see from the three making-of videos displayed below. LoCascio's impression of Michael J Fox is also chillingly accurate...
