It’s been confirmed that a brand new Battlestar Galactica prequel series, Blood & Chrome, is in the works. Does that put question marks over Caprica’s future?

Appreciating we're a little late to the party with this one, Syfy has confirmed that it's ordered another spin-off prequel series to Battlestar Galactica. This one will be entitled Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, and it's going to be set between the events of Caprica and Battlestar Galactica itself.

The new show will be set in the tenth year of the Cylon War, and will follow "a brash rookie viper pilot". Yep, that'd be William Adama, just entering his 20s and assigned to the brand new battlestar in the fleet. That'd be Galactica, of course.

David Eick is taking on executive producing duties, it's been confirmed, although it doesn't seem that Ron Moore will be particularly hands on with this one (and he hasn't been with Caprica either, from what we can see). Syfy will be kicking things off with a two hour pilot episode, although it's not clear yet when we'll get to see it.

Incidentally, this is the series that was originally set to be an online-only venture. It's probably safe to assume that when the script came in, Syfy realised it had something a little stronger on its plate.

Also, this leaves a question as to the current state of Caprica. Syfy is understandably keen to get as much of out the BSG franchise as possible, but right now, Caprica hasn't been recommissioned for a second season. Will Blood & Chrome be taking its place, or will Syfy run two spin-offs alongside each other? We're guessing we're a few months away from getting answers to that...
