And so, another piece of the Spider-Man reboot jigsaw is slotted into place.
Earlier this week, it was strongly rumoured that Emma Stone was about to be offered a major role opposite Andrew Garfield's webslinger in the new film. And that's just what's happened. Sony has now confirmed that she is, indeed, going to take on the part of Gwen Stacy in the movie.
Stone, whose latest film, Easy A, is doing decent business at the US box office, will join the shoot of the film when it starts this coming December. And the role of Gwen Stacy is going to be more substantive here than it was in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, playing heavily on the fact that she's Peter Parker's first love. The casting of Mary Jane Watson, meanwhile, is yet to be confirmed.
Then there's the small matter of the villain to be sorted. Earlier in the week, it was a return for Venom that was being mooted, with Philip Seymour Hoffman's name suggested. We're still far from certain that's going to be the case, but we'll know in the next two months just who Spider-Man will be fighting this time around...
