Hugh Jackman is set to return as Wolverine, and the film is set to shoot next year. But will Darren Aronofsky be directing?
With First Class currently before the cameras in the UK, Fox has its next X-Men film already well into production. After First Class, though, it's turning its attentions back to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The plan, it seems, is to have Wolverine 2 ready for the summer of 2012, and that means that the film's shoot will take place next year.
In fact, Hugh Jackman has given an update on the project's progress, suggesting that a March or April start date is looking likely.
However, the question remains over who will be directing Wolverine 2, and it's one that may have been answered as a result of Warner Bros' decision to hire Zack Snyder to direct its latest Superman film. For one of the other candidates on Warner Bros' list was Pi and Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky. But now that he's not handling the Man Of Steel, Fox is reported to have offered him the Wolverine 2 job instead.
Vulture reports that Fox and Aronofsky have entered negotiations about directing the film, putting him at the top of a list that's also believed to have included Robert Schwentke (Red) and David Slade (Twilight: Eclipse). There's no certainty that Aronofsky will say yes at this stage, but he'd be a promising choice for the project.
