Could the director behind Black Swan, Pi and The Wrestler be lined up to direct Superman, under the stewardship of Christopher Nolan?
Last week was quite the one for Superman reboot director speculation. It started with the story that Guillermo del Toro had been approached to helm the next Man Of Steel film, which is being overseen by Christopher Nolan. And while he's not going to be stepping into the director's chair, later in the week it was reported that Warner Bros had a shortlist, that Nolan and producer Emma Thomas were working through.
That shortlist featured Tony Scott, Zack Snyder, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman and Duncan Jones. And since then, it's become clear that Liebesman is committed to Clash Of The Titans 2, while two of the other names on the list have also responded.
Matt Reeves, whose Let Me In is shortly for release, told Joblo, "I really have no idea if any of that is true. It's certainly an amazing project, but I would be surprised."
Meanwhile, Duncan Jones - our favoured choice on the list - Tweeted "About Superman... I'm going to say something really cheesy; Can't talk about it, but an honor to be on the list. Interesting times!"
Now, however, the Los Angeles Times has added another name to the list. And it's Darren Aronofsky, whose incoming film, Black Swan, is already attracting some serious awards attention. Aronofsky was, for some time, attached to a new movie of Robocop, but doesn't have a full-on studio film to his name as of yet, and seems reluctant to have signed up for one. However, the protective cloak of Christopher Nolan just may swing his decision.
The call as to who will be helming Superman: The Man Of Steel is expected over the next few weeks, with the plan still being to have the movie in cinemas for the end of 2012.
