According to one Sex And The City actor, the franchise is now dead. And what’s more, he reckons it’s the critics to blame…
Reading a story like this, you can't help but wonder sometimes if legs are being pulled somewhere along the line. It's almost like we're being taunted to feature it. And, heck, what can we say? We're clearly very easy prey.
What are we on about? A fair question. It's the words of Mr Chris Noth, talking to the New Yorker magazine's Vulture blog. Noth, Mr Big in the land of Sex And The City, revealed some news that's going to disappoint some, and delight others.
Namely, that the Sex And The City franchise is dead.
Now, appreciating that the second movie's box office was much less than Warner Bros was hoping for, failing to break the $100m in the US, it still managed to rake in $288m all in across the globe. That's some way short of the $415m box office total for the original, but you'd still struggle to call it small change.
However, Noth seemed quite adamant that was that. "It's over. The franchise is dead. The press killed it. Your magazine fucking killed it. New York Magazine. It's like all the critics got together and said, 'This franchise must die.' Because they all had the exact same review. It's like they didn't see the movie," he said, before asking the interviewer for gum.
Tongue in cheek? Possibly, and there were lots of denials that the second movie was happening before it finally went ahead. But the point about the reviews isn't far wide of the mark. Most of them were in steadfast agreement. Thing is, we suspect that the reviewers in question had seen the film. Just saying.
