Filming has begun on the fifth Final Destination movie. So, who’s directing, who’s starring, and what’s the basic story behind it? Glad you asked…
Personally, I was really disappointed by last year's The Final Destination. I'm not going to make the case that the first two films were cinematic classics, but I had a whale of a time watching both. Particularly the second, and thus when David R Ellis (who helmed Final Destination 2) was confirmed as the director of The Final Destination, I figured we'd be in for a treat.
Turned out I was wrong, and all the fun of the second movie was diluted, in favour of a by-the-numbers, almost soul-less retread of what had gone before.
Yet, I suspect I'm in the minority here, as The Final Destination turned out to be a sizeable box office hit. So much so that the fifth movie will be with us by this time next year.
The latest on the project is that it's now been confirmed that cameras have started rolling. Making his solo directorial debut on the film is Steve Quale, who previously co-directed Aliens Of The Deep with James Cameron, and did second unit work on Avatar. Quale's cast includes Frozen's Emma Bell and Heroes' Nick D'Agosto, and is fleshed out by a collection of actors with primarily TV work to their name thus far.
Furthermore, a synopsis has now been released, too, which sort of details the plot to the film. Put it this way: it's been through the Police Academy sequel story-writing machine...
"In this fifth installment, Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and is unleashed after one man's premonition saves a group of coworkers from a terrifying suspension bridge collapse. But this group of unsuspecting souls was never supposed to survive, and, in a terrifying race against time, the ill-fated group frantically tries to discover a way to escape Death's sinister agenda."
The film is being shot in 3D once more, and is set for release on 26th August 2011. Here's hoping it gets its sense of fun back...
