Take a certain, famous karting title, transplant the racers with a selection of Sega mascots and other gaming icons, add the ability to travel on water and fly, and you end up with this, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
Familiarities to Nintendo’s series aside, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed does actually look like it may be a worthy addition to any karting fan’s collection, and not only do the addition of mid-race transformations look good, but the new Wii U features will also give owners of Nintendo’s new console something to boast about.
These exclusive features include the ability to use the Wii U controller’s screen as a read view mirror and picture-in-picture weapon view (so you can see if you hit your target), and, along with traditional four-player split screen on the telly, you can now have an extra, fifth player using the new controller screen.
The controller will also feature motion control abilities, much like Mario Kart Wii, and you’ll be able to instantly move the action from the main TV to the controller screen at any time.
It’s certain that, in time, Nintendo will endow the Wii U with a new, and no doubt market-leading Mario Kart, but until then, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed looks like it’ll fill the void, and the game arrives on Wii U when the console launches.
