It would appear that Warner Bros is very impressed with Guillermo del Toro's eagerly-awaited Pacific Rim, which certainly bodes well as, it's made our list of next year's blockbusters. So impressed is Warner Bros that it's apparently happy to offer del Toro his pick of its roster for his next project. Might it be, then, that a superhero team-up movie is catching his eye?
But hold on: it's not the one you're thinking of. Del Toro won't be taking the director's chair on Warner Bros' Justice League film. Instead, he's looking to devise a new one by himself that is, shall we say, a little more to his tastes.
He's looking to unite characters such as Hellblazer, Swamp Thing, The Spectre, Deadman, Phantom Stranger and a number of others in a film provisionally titled Heaven Sent. If it goes ahead, it'll be a darker alternative to The Avengers and Justice League movies that will bring characters to the big screen that would otherwise struggle to get their own standalone movie.
There's one rather major hurdle, though, in that there are significant legal issues in place to getting all these characters together. Apparently, Warner Bros has tasked its lawyers with getting to the bottom of various rights issues to see if this project is a possibility. If not, del Toro hardly has a lack of projects lined up. Still, this does sound pretty great, so fingers crossed.
