UbiSoft has issued a statement with a bit of an update on the planned Assassin's Creed film, with Michael Fassbender.

The last we'd heard on the planned movie of the Assassin's Creed videogames was that the project had suddenly appeared on many people's radar when it was revealed that Michael Fassbender was stepping aboard.

Now, though, a statement has been sent out by UbiSoft that completely confirms Fassbender's involvement in the film, and also gives a bit of an update. The latest significant step forward for the project is that New Regency has come on board to partner on Assassin's Creed, and that "the project is being fast tracked as the creative pieces come together". The statement also confirms that UbiSoft will "maintain control of key elements of the movie's creative direction". Fox will be distributing the movie.

Furthermore, "the development of a screenplay is beginning immediately". It's suggested, but not included in the statement, that all concerned want the film ready to shoot next year.

UbiSoft has also confirmed that, on top of a TV series of Rabbids, it's also got movies of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon in the works.

More on all of these when we hear it.
