Once upon a time, Sony was reported to have said that it would not press ahead with a third Ghostbusters movie if Bill Murray was not involved. As many suspect, though, especially given his less the upbeat remarks about the project, it seems that Murray has finally declined once and for all the chance to be involved with Ghostbusters 3. However, the project now looks like it’s definitely going ahead.
Director Ivan Reitman had been committed to a comedy by the name of Draft Day, which Kevin Costner was set to be involved in. But that film has now been delayed, and it’s cleared the path for pre-production work to begin on Ghostbusters 3. The plan is now, apparently, for the film to shoot next summer, which suggests that the new adventures of the Ghostbusters will be in cinemas in 2014.
It’s still hard to be too enthusiastic about the film, although we’ll happily be proved wrong. It just feels like a project happening for the wrong reasons. We’ll wait and see how it turns out…
