TNT has ordered a six-episode series of Frank Darabont’s 1940s-set crime drama, L.A. Noir, the pilot for which stars Simon Pegg...

Type “Frank Darabont” into Google, and the first predictive suggestion you’ll see is “Frank Darabont fired”, such was the public impact of the showrunner’s inauspicious removal from The Walking Dead last summer. (Incidentally, the same goes for Dan Harmon, formerly of the Community parish).

Darabont’s return to TV comes in the form of six-part drama series L.A. Noir (no ‘e’), a version of the real-life crime conflict between the LAPD and organised crime boss Mickey Cohen, which has just received the season order from TNT.

Heroes’ Milo Ventimiglia appears in the pilot, alongside The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey DeMunn, The Good Wife's Jeremy Strong, Captain America’s Neal NcDonough and our very own Simon Pegg, who plays “Hecky Nash, a third-rate comedian and mob hanger-on.” If all goes to plan, our US chums can expect to see the new episodes on TNT next autumn.
