Now it's been officially confirmed that Marc Webb is returning to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 2, there's the small matter of putting the film together. We know that a release date of May 2nd 2014 has been confirmed, and we know that Andrew Garfield has been confirmed to return as Spider-Man. Emma Stone's return as Gwen has yet to be rubber-stamped, but we strongly suspect that's a matter of when, rather than if.
According to Variety, it looks as if The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is going to introduce Mary Jane Watson, too. The part was played by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi's trilogy, but the front runner at the moment appears to be Shailene Woodley, whose highest profile role to date has been her strong performance in The Descendants.
Furthermore, casting feelings are reportedly out for the part of Harry Osborn, too.
As for the villain? Electro is said to be the front runner. Inevitably, this hasn't been confirmed, but we'd expect things to slide into place over the next weeks, as the films moves towards a likely early 2013 shoot. There's more on the story at Variety, here.
