The new Turtles series is coming to ITV in 2013, and will have a second season. Official TNMT correspondent, Matt Edwards, investigates...

It’s been almost three weeks since Den of Geek last published anything about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and that’s because I became overwhelmed and have been having a lie down. The new series launched with a double bill on Nickelodeon in the UK on Monday the 1st of October, and three episodes in, Den of Geek couldn’t be happier with the show. It’s funny, the action scenes are great, and the animation is top notch. For further praise, please see our spoiler-free review of the first two episodes, here

The show has proven to be a hit, too. Reports suggest that the Turtles’ return was watched by twelve million viewers in the USA. It’s an impressive figure and one that the show absolutely deserves.

The figure has clearly impressed Nickelodeon, too, as a second season has been confirmed. In truth, the show represents a massive investment for Nickeldeon and it likely would have taken a complete disaster for it not to see a second run. In fact, if you follow any of the cast on Twitter you’d be forgiven for thinking that the second series was already well into production.

It seems that UK channel ITV has been impressed, too, because it’s been announced that the show will be airing on their channel from spring 2013. ITV airing the show will mean that everyone with a television has access to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That’s a good thing.

Turtles toys are scheduled to be in UK shops from the 1st of December, just in time for Christmas. We’re trying to convince our significant others that we legitimately need the three foot high sewer play set for article research, albeit without much success.

With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles proving such a success, and with the Bay-produced film still subject to speculated production problems, script-leaks and online alien outrages, we wonder whether Paramount might have missed a trick by not going the animated route with the upcoming movie.

To celebrate the show's success, here’s a video of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles performing Pizza Power as part of their tour as a band.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles airs on Nickelodeon on Mondays at 5pm.
