After years of delays, New Line seems to be pressing ahead with Y: The Last Man.

A movie adaptation of Brian K Vaughn and Pia Guerra's Y: The Last Man has been on the cards for some time now. In fact, pretty much from the moment the comic book made its debut in 2002, a film version has been mooted.

The well regarded series is epic in scale and scope, spanning 60 issues. It tells the story of Yorick and his pet monkey, who are the only survivors of an event that kills off every male member of every mammal species on the planet.

Previously, the closest the film came to happening was when DJ Caruso was attached to direct and Shia LaBeouf was set to star as Yorick. However, that failed to move forward, leaving New Line Cinema in back at square one.

Recently a new pass at the screenplay has been made by Jericho and Warehouse 13 writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia. It seems, too, to have hit the mark, as the latest on the project now is that a director is being actively sought. New Line is reportedly currently meeting with candidates.

We'll give you an update on the project when it's available.
