Killzone Trilogy headed to PS3

The original incarnation of Sony’s flagship FPS series is headed to the PS3, along with its sequels on a single disc…

Sony’s been quite fond or releasing its back catalogue in bumper, family packs recently, and we’ve already seen the likes of God of War, Infamous and Jak and Daxter emerge with multiple titles on a single disc, and now it’s Killzone’s turn.

The most interesting thing about this pack, however, is that it’ll not only feature the two PS3 sequels, but also a re-mastered version of the PS2 original, complete with a HD visual overhaul and support for trophies. This is a very good thing in my humble opinion, as the first game was a flawed gem that showed a great deal of promise (obviously, as it spawned two main sequels and spin-offs) but was held back by the aging architecture of the PS2, which clearly struggled to cope with the task asked of it.

Getting the chance to play the original at a smooth and consistent frame rate, and with sharper visuals will be worth the $40 admission alone for fans, and the fact that you’re getting all three games on a single Blu-ray disc makes for a very attractive re-release for newcomers and existing fans alike, as it’ll also include all the map pack DLC for both Killzone 2 and 3.

Killzone Trilogy will be released on PlayStation 3 on October 23, and a standalone version of the HD remake of the original Killzone will also be made available on PSN, for those who already own the sequels and DLC.
