It’s safe to say that Angry Birds, from Rovio Entertainment, has been just a little bit successful. Just a little bit. It’s sold over 12 million copies worldwide, and is one of, if not the most popular game on mobile phones and other portable devices. The simple premise of flinging feathery projectiles into Jenga-style forts inhabited by green pigs is remarkably addictive, and it’s spawned many themed incarnations.
With the bird-laden puzzler riding high, Rovio isn’t resting on its laurels, however, and a new game has been announced, this time putting player in control of the Birds’ arch nemeses, the pigs.
Bad Piggies will feature totally different gameplay mechanics than Angry Birds, although not much has been revealed thus far.
In a statement issued by Rovio, the developer said, "This innovative game turns the franchise on its head by letting the fans play as the pigs - with all new, never-before-seen gameplay - and not a slingshot in sight!
"There's a lot of empathy towards the lovable enemies from the Angry Birds games, and we've been constantly asked: what about the pigs' side of the story?
"There's so much more to these pigs than what is seen in the Angry Birds games, and Bad Piggies is the first glimpse into what's going on in the imaginative and ingenious minds of the pigs."
Bad Piggies will be released for iOS, Android and Mac on September 27.
