The fish are revolting in the first trailer for Barry Levinson’s inbound eco-horror, The Bay…

Yes, it’s another found-footage movie. But wait! This one’s directed by Barry Levinson, the respected director behind the acclaimed Rain Man, as well as things like Sphere and Wag The Dog.

A rare detour into the horror genre for Levinson, The Bay a distinct 70s/early 80s exploitation air about it, with hints of David Cronenberg’s Shivers and maybe a dash of the environmental schlock epic, Humanoids From The Deep. It’s about a sleepy coastal town beset by a strange waterborne plague, which attacks fish and humans from within and sends them stark, staring mad.

One scene in particular, involving a plump belly writhing with terrible things just under the skin, looks decidedly Cronenbergian – though some younger readers may immediately think of James Gunn’s Slither, the whippersnappers.

The Bay’s out in US cinemas on the 2nd November. When it’ll wriggle onto UK shores has yet to be revealed.
