You know that bit in the Police Academy franchise where Steve Guttenberg decided he wasn't going to keep making them? That's the stage that the Scary Movie films are now at. What's kept the franchise even moderately watchful as the tired sequels have arrived in turn has been the presence of Anna Faris. This time, though, she's out, as she's declined the opportunity to reprise her role, having just given birth to her first child (congratulations to her!).
So who's in? Well, the cast this time includes Charlie Sheen, Molly Shannon, Terry Crews, High School Musical's Ainsley Tisdale and Lindsay Lohan. The plot as such apparently surrounds a trio of dancers fighting for a role in a new production, that's being put together by "a snooty, aloof, imperious and oversexed director".
There's a new director this time, too, with Malcolm Lee helming. His previous credits include Undercover Brother and Soul Men. And if he can re-inject laughs into this franchise, then he'll succeed where David Zucker had failed.
Scary Movie 5 is scheduled for release in April 2013.
