With The Avengers/Avengers Assemble arriving on DVD and Blu-ray in a few weeks, Joss Whedon has given an interesting interview to Vulture, where he talks about the film and what he’s up to next.
Not that we don’t know: he’s signed a deal with Marvel, that will include a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, as well as The Avengers 2 in summer 2015. He’s gone from a man who was apparently umming and aahing about The Avengers 2, to committing to something seemingly much bigger for the next three years.
“It's fun!”, he told Vulture. “I also love these characters and the Marvel universe, and I grew up reading the books, and I've been going back and reading the old books and realising that they shaped my storytelling way more than I give them credit for. Now I'm starting up a TV show, which is something I really wanted to do, but I thought it wasn't going to be a part of my life for the next several years. It's like a tapas menu of projects that excite me, in addition to the Avengers sequel, which I'm excited for because I'm incredibly excited about the next story that I'm going to tell. For me, it's a huge win”.
Sounds like it’s going to be a pressure-filled few years, then?
“It is unbelievably daunting, especially because I don't want to lose sight of all the other things I have on my docket and in my heart. So, it's going to be an insane few years, but I feel ready for that”.
Before we get more Avengers, and before we get S.H.I.E.L.D., there’s the small matter of Joss Whedon’s already-shot adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing, though. We suspect we might have more news on that shortly.
