You may remember earlier on in the year, when it was announced that there would be some 'differences' to the back story of the Turtles in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, that the news didn't exactly go down well. It led to the film's producer, Michael Bay, taking to his website to post the following words:
“Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”
Of course, this did little to apease fans, with many still suspicious as to just what Bay and his creative team were up to. And the touchpaper was lit again over the past week, as a leaked early draft of the film's script seemingly confirmed many people's fears. Once more, though, Michael Bay has taken to his website to try and calm things down.
He said that "The leaked script for Ninja Turtles that different sites continue to comment on was written well before I, or anyone at Platinum Dunes, was involved with the project. That script saw the shredder a long time ago. This is tired, old news - wait for the movie!"
The leaked script was apparently dated January 2012, and while suspicions will continue to abound, it's not actually unreasonable what Michael Bay is asking. It's an old draft script, that much was clear, and there does seem to be one or two instances of late of judging a film based on a screenplay that leaked alone. We say that with the same alarm bells blaring as your good selves, but wait and see does seem to be a decent approach.
