After last week's rather disappointing news that Joe Carnahan wouldn't be directing Daredevil, despite a rather awesome pitch, it looked as though we would have some time to wait until the director tried his hand at a comic book adaptation. The wait may not be as long as initially thought, however, as according to Mark Millar, Carnahan is attached to bring Nemesis to the big screen.
Over at Millarworld, Millar posted the following update:
“Shot straight from a wedding in Manchester last week to the City of Angels and plunged straight into some studio biz on the Nemesis movie. Mighty Joe Carnahan is directing (from a script by he and his brother Matthew), but this much you already know. Fox wanted us to get in the same room for the first time and really hash this out, which was exciting. Joe has a really brilliant take on this and Matt and he are going to take things from here so I’m really happy. Absolutely no casting has been done formally, although you can google the MTV interview from last January where he and Sir Liam Neeson are chatting about it. More news as it happens.”
Carnahan's involvement has been rumoured for some time, with the director writing the introduction to Nemesis and having the following to say about the project: “Someone reposted (I fucking flat-out refuse to use the word ‘Retweet’ for fear that my balls will spontaneously detonate) a Millar passage mentioning his love of The A-Team as well as the fact that he had named a character in Nemesis ‘Carnahan’ after yours truly. What Mark didn’t know, was that I, along with my brother Matt, had been charged with adapting Nemesis for Fox but it had gone sideways under the stewardship of this conniving shithead who singlehandedly torpedoed the project… for the time being.”
It would certainly be interesting to see Nemesis brought to the screen, and Carnahan is a fine choice for the job. Here's hoping he's allowed to make the film he wants to. More on Nemesis when it's available.
