We’ve not reported, as you’d probably expect, on the assorted romantic problems facing Kristen Stewart. And we only talk about them now because they appear to be having an impact on her role in the follow-up to Snow White And The Huntsman.
It’s not a massive secret, given that statements have been issued, the Stewart and Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders have had a brief affair. But it seems that a consequence of that, perhaps an indirect one, is that Universal is taking a surprising approach to its planned sequel. In short, it now seems more like a spin-off.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the focus on the new film will now be on Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman character. That means that screenwriter David Koepp is being bought of his contract, given that the new direction isn’t the film that he was hired to write.
Will Kristen Stewart’s character now appear at all? Well, according to the Los Angeles Times, there’s still a slight possibility of that, citing a Universal source insisting “Stewart’s Snow White could still be a character in that film”. However, the studio does seem to think that Chris Hemsworth’s character is now the one to back.
More news on what’s presumably more The Huntsman than Snow White And The Huntsman 2 when we get it.
UPDATE: One or two people have been in touch to tell us that Universal's plan for the film was veering towards The Huntsman spin-off before the recent aforementioned events. Whilst the news of David Koepp departing the project is new, it seems that parts have been regurgitated from before.
