TV shows that take their inspiration from films are a chequered affair; for every The Sopranos or The West Wing (the first unofficially Goodfellas-inspired, the second from Aaron Sorkin’s blueprint for his own hit show, The American President), Buffy and M*A*S*H, there’s a Blade, a Police Academy, and an Uncle Buck.
Which category Cinemax and HBO’s The Transporter will fall into is yet to be seen. Based on the Luc Besson series starring our very own Jason Statham, The Transporter follows uncompromising ex-Special Forces operator Frank Martin, a man who makes his living as a fast-driving, very violent delivery boy for the criminal world.
Chris Vance (Prison Break; Dexter; Burn Notice) is the man tasked with filling Jason Statham’s size 10s in the series, and you can see for yourself how he’s getting along in this extended first look at the new series.
The Transporter is due to premiere this October with a pilot directed by Lost's Stephen Williams and written by Stargate’s Carl Binder.
