Bill & Ted

Could the new Bill & Ted film have a bit of Sliding Doors about it? Keanu Reeves offers an update…

Yesterday, we reported – a good two days after the rest of the Internet, we should point out – that Dean Parisot was the man set to direct the long-awaited third Bill & Ted movie. Parisot’s immediate priority is to shoot and edit RED 2, in time for its release next year, which means that Bill & Ted 3 isn’t likely to go before the cameras for a good year or so yet. But this is a film that seems likely to happen now.

So what should we expect from it? We know that Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon have been penning the screenplay and, chatting to GQ, Keanu Reeves has revealed the approach that they've taken.

"One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world. And they haven't done it”, Reeves said.

“So everybody is kind of like: 'where is the song?; The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock. And we go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future 'us' refuses to tell us, and another future 'us' blames us for their lives because we didn't write the song, so they're living this terrible life. In one version we're in jail; in another we're at some kind of highway motel and they hate us”.

So then: it’s a bit like Sliding Doors, but with Bill & Ted? That’ll do us…
