Back in May, BBC Three promised a “…bigger, better, bolder, braver and definitely more terrifying” 2013 return for Being Human courtesy of a brand new villain. The season four finale left us with a few clues as to who that villain might be, and the smart money was on the suit-wearing Archivist chaps who arrived to clean up the mess left by poor Alex’s demise.
Now comes news of a new nasty character, one who goes by the name of Captain Hatch. A human ex-military type described by the actor behind him as “marvellously disgusting”, Hatch is the most recent new addition to the series five cast. The man playing him? Familiar face of UK film and TV, Phil Davis (Silk, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Alien 3, Quadrophenia…).
This is what the BBC had to say about Davis’ new character:
Captain Hatch has seen it all. At least he reckons he has. And whatever it is, he doesn’t much like it. Stuck in a failing body, in a wheelchair, in a dismal seaside hotel, things aren’t exactly sunny side up. Hatch embodies the worst in humanity – he’s bitter, manipulative, obsequious and cruel. Quite the catch. But those aren’t even the worst things about the aged army captain… beneath his decrepit exterior there lies within him a dark and toxic secret that could rattle your soul with fear.
We’ll have to wait until early next year to see whether Captain Hatch is intended to fill the void left by Mark Gatiss’ consummate baddie, Mr Snow, but either way, it sounds as if Hal, Tom, and Alex have trouble on their hands…
