This week’s big story was, naturally, the announcement that Joss Whedon would return to write and direct a second Avengers movie.
Although the first film’s huge success might have made Whedon’s return little more than a formality, Whedon had implied that he was more interested in pursuing original projects of his own in interviews, so his decision to remain with Marvel Studios will come as something of a relief to the legion fans who saw Avengers take around $1.5 billion at the box office this year.
The next logical question, then, is when will we get to watch Avengers 2? Well, MTV claims it’ll probably be released on the 1st May, 2015. The outlet doesn’t name its source, but cites “several industry insiders”.
“It looks like the release date might be May 1, 2015,” the mysterious source told MTV, “but that can change depending on people's schedules. The beauty of The Avengers is that you've got so many people in this that even during the shoot if someone has to do another film they can just focus on [other characters].”
Summer 2015’s certainly a logical time frame, since Marvel has a whole series of sequels planned for the next year or two, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Iron Man 3 pencilled in for a 2013 release, and Thor: The Dark World scheduled for 2014. Then there’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, Marvel’s big movie for the summer of 2014.
