Roland Emmerich's White House Down has been moved from its original release date of November 2013 to the 28th June 2013, which might indicate that Sony's confident of it being a sizeable hit. If it is a success, the move will conveniently see the film being a major release over the 4th of July weekend.
The thriller, starring Channing Tatum as a secret service agent attempting to rescue the President (Jamie Foxx) and also starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods and Richard Jenkins, is one of two competing White House invasion movies in production. Emmerich's latest goes up against Antoine Fuqua's thriller, Olympus Has Fallen, which will star Gerard Butler and is due for release in 2014.
Just to add to the confusion, White House Down may only be a working title, so its name could change before next summer. Do any of you have some title suggestions? You never know, Sony might take notice (probably not though).
