He may be lacking the trademark stovepipe hat (he is indoors after all), but Daniel Day Lewis looks strikingly like Abe Lincoln in the first image from Steven Spielberg’s current work in progress.
Already well known for his ability to immerse himself almost completely in his performances, Day Lewis is almost unrecognisable as one of the key presidents in America’s history. The movie, imaginatively called Lincoln, takes place in the last four months of the leader’s life, and explores the lengths he went to, after the end of the Civil War, to make sure that his abolition of slavery remained forever intact.
“Our movie is really about a working leader who must make tough decisions and get things done in the face of overwhelming opposition,” Spielberg told Entertainment Weekly.
Lincoln’s due out on the 25th January in the UK, and if all goes according to plan, expect it to be one of the prominent movies among next year’s Oscar nominations.
