The forthcoming adaptation of the Guardians Of The Galaxy comic books has a new writer attached...

This is little more than a news snippet, admittedly, but it can at least be taken as a sign that Marvel's adaptation of Guardians Of The Galaxy is moving in the right direction.

The studio has hired a writer for its space adventure, and interestingly, he's a relatively new talent rather than a familiar Hollywood name; he's Chris McCoy, a screenwriter who's yet to have a big-screen credit to his name, but whose scripts have made the Black List - a respected aggregation of promising screenplays yet to be picked up for production.

According to Hollywood Reporter, McCoy's writing style is quirky and comedic, which may hint at an appropriately light tone for a comic book series that includes a gun-toting raccoon and a half man, half tree. He'll be reworking a draft previously turned in by another screenwriter, Nicole Perlman.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is due out in 2014, so expect plenty of casting news to emerge from Hollywood soon.
