There's been talk of a movie of The Equalizer, on and off, for some time now. However, it seems that the moment has come, as Sony Pictures has greenlit the movie, with Denzel Washington on board to star.
He'll step into the role played by the late Edward Woodward on the small screen in the 1980s, working this time from a screenplay by Richard Wenk (who penned The Expendables 2). Sony has put together a shortlist of potential directors, and they include Drive's Nicolas Winding Refn, Warrior's Gavin O'Connor, and The Raid's Gareth Evans. A formal appointment is presumably not far away.
The plan is to kickstart a franchise here, apparently, and we'll keep you posted as we hear more...
