Just the other week, Matt Damon once more iterated that he wasn't necessarily done with the Bourne franchise yet, and that he may yet return to play his most popular character to date. This isn't anything new: Damon has always been insistent that if Paul Greengrass directed another Bourne film. he'd be back on board (current update: they haven't found a story for a new Bourne adventure together that they've be happy to do). Yet on the eve of the release of The Bourne Legacy, it's opened up the possibility of both Jason Bourne and Jeremy Renner's new character, Aaron Cross, coming together in a fifth Bourne movie.
Producer Frank Marshall had also teased the idea of the two characters coming together, but in a chat with Coming Soon, he's been utterly insistent that the future of the franchise lies with Jeremy Renner.
So, for the next film after The Bourne Legacy, "we’re gonna follow Jeremy’s character. Everything else is wide open. That’s the great thing about this now. The table is set to go any direction we want to. But we will, I’m sure, follow Jeremy and see what happens".
