HBO’s sexed-up supernatural drama True Blood started off back in 2008 with one and a half million US viewers and now regularly achieves three times that number. That’s all the maths studio execs needed to green-light a sixth season for the show, which is currently four episodes into its fifth run.
True Blood’s sixth season is to be its first without Alan Ball at the helm, as the former showrunner is stepping down to a consulting producer role for further instalments from the Louisiana vamps, werewolves, faeries and whatnot in order to concentrate on new Cinemax martial arts series, Banshee. True Blood co-executive producer and sometime writer Mark Hudis will be stepping in to fill Ball’s shoes when the sixth season kicks off.
