Given that Universal has come something of a cropper with Battleship, which was blasted away at the US box office thanks to being positioned a couple of weeks after the release of The Avengers, its relief that Snow White & The Huntsman is about to cross $100m in the States must be palpable. But then, Snow White is a much better film, whose ambition helps paper over some of its cracks.
It’s also opened up, as it turns out, a new franchise for Universal, which is reportedly already pressing ahead with a sequel. David Koepp is apparently already working on a screenplay for a fresh adventure, which would reunite the key cast of the first movie, along with director Rupert Sanders.
Snow White & The Huntsman’s worldwide gross currently stands at $182m, and we’d imagine that had The Avengers not been around, it could have comfortably added $50m to that. We’re glad to see it’s getting another chapter, and will keep you posted about its progress…
