Fans can relax, Michel Ancel’s Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still on its way…
Despite being a superb game and an excellently well produced release, Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil was, tragically, ignored by the majority of the gaming public, making it a true cult classic.
It's since been re-released as a downloadable title, so I'd urge anyone who hasn't played it to do so at their earliest convenience, you won't regret it. Those who have played the game, are no doubt wondering what's going on with the alleged sequel.
Well, there's some good news there, as Michel Ancel has confirmed, in an interview with Toulouse Games, that he and his team are still working on Beyond Good & Evil 2, and that the project hasn't died. He couldn't give any details on dates, as he doesn't want to let the fans down in case things change, which, let's face it, they inevitably do.
"We are in an active creation stage and at this moment we are only focusing on the game and making it the best game that we can," he said. "That decision would just distracts us from that objective. I can say that it's a very ambitious game and we need some tech to achieve that ambition."
When asked about the format of the game, and its similarity to Mirror's Edge, Ancel confirmed that the game will take inspiration from another couple of Ubisoft big hitters instead.
"We had this concept even before Mirror's Edge launched. And we have a different approach to the first person perspective that Mirror's Edge has. Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed are closer to what we have in mind with the control of the character in a third person perspective."
So, although there's no release date, or any substantial information on the game, at least we know its coming, and we'll just have to wait and see when Ubisoft is prepared to release some official updates. For now, go play the first one, really, it's that good.
