It mixes realism with imagination, and it looks darn beautiful. Here's the first trailer for the surreal drama, Beasts Of The Southern Wild...
Having already stunned critics at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the first trailer for Beasts Of The Southern Wild finally gives the rest of us an idea of what the fuss is about. And right from the opening frame, it's clear that Beasts is a beautiful film, with more than a hint of Terrence Malick's visual poetry.
The film's about a young girl (played by Quvenzhané Wallis, in what looks like a brilliant debut), who fights to save her home and her father from an oncoming storm. And in among the narrative, there are glimpses of gigantic, lumbering prehistoric creatures, all matted hair and gleaming tusks.
With Beasts already receiving hugely enthusiastic reviews, it's just possible that it'll end up as one of the year's Oscar contenders - and will certainly put director Benh Zeitlin on the filmmaking map. When we get a UK release date for this one, we'll be sure to let you know.
