Guy Ritchie was one linked with making a movie of DC Comics’ Lobo. But has the job just gone to the director of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island?

Undeterred by the trouble it had with Green Lantern, Warner Bros is pushing ahead with another new DC Comics adaptation, and it’s the long-in-gestiation Lobo movie that appears to have finally gained some traction.

Lobo isn’t the most obvious choice to get the movie treatment, given that he’s an anti-hero at best (and was a villain at first), who was designed to send up the violent heroes that were running around comic books in the 1990s. With no shortage of violence and dark humour, Lobo has turned into a popular character for DC, yet a risky one to bring to the big screen. He's hardly going to come out well if he's watered down by the Hollywood movie machine.

At one stage, Guy Ritchie was linked with making a Lobo movie, but nothing came to pass there. However, a new director has been found, and it’s not an obvious choice.

According to Deadline, Brad Peyton is the man Warner Bros has chosen. Peyton’s most recent films? Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore. He’s also linked with making Journey 3 for Warner Bros/New Line, so there may be some schedule-juggling that needs to take place.

Peyton is an interesting choice, then, and we’re intrigued to see how well he manages to fit the material. More news on the project as we get it…
