Bond’s greatest hits compilation, 007 Legends, is coming from Activision…
Announced as a special title to celebrate the 50th anniversary of James Bond, and to tie in with the upcoming Skyfall, 007 Legends is apparently going to "launch gamers back through time to relive a selection of Bond's most iconic and intense undercover missions...", according to Activision.
The game, which is coming for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, will see players go on a whistle stop tour of six classic Bond movies, re-enacting some of the super agent's most memorable missions, and will be topped off with some action from the new film, Skyfall.
Activision's press release doesn't specify exactly what kind of game it'll be, but it's safe to assume that it won't stray too far from the GoldenEye: Reloaded or BloodStone setups. It's also not known which of the classic films is to feature, but it's a fair bet such classics as Goldfinger and Dr. No will make it into the fray, and that Daniel Craig's mug will be shoehorned into each classic scene.
More information was included about the return of GoldenEye: Reloded's Mi6 Ops mode to the new game, which will bring a host of extra action and stealth missions, as well as the chance to see the story from the opposite side of the Walther PPK as one of Bond's many famous villains. These missions will let you unleash your inner Dr. Evil, fighting against Bond in some well known situations, but I suspect there won't be any shark-mounted frickin' laser beams.
Also returning in 007 Legends will be the four-player split-screen modes, as well as online competitive play and the usual selection of weapons, gadgets and maps based on the 50 years of 007's history.
It's certainly going to be a interesting title for 007 fans, but it's also safe to say that Bond games are rarely done justice. GoldenEye was very good (better on the Wii), but a mish-mash of six or seven films may be a bit much. As long as Activision stays away from the awful multiple genre Bond game variety that plagued much of the 2000s, we may be okay.
